⤴️ In Transition

Houston Dash’s front office 🏢 is going through a rollercoaster ride with more plot twists than a soap opera! With no permanent GM since Alex Singer’s July exit and no head coach in sight since June, the Dash have turned to former Orlando Pride GM Erik Ustruck as their “interim” fixer. Tasked with guiding the team through the NWSL’s tricky free agency period, Ustruck already made waves by locking down center-back Paige Nielsen until 2028, a move that’s arguably the Dash’s best defensive play this season—on or off the field.

The Dash, currently hanging out in 13th place, have been searching for stability like a needle in a haystack. Their tumultuous history includes just one playoff appearance in the last decade and a coaching carousel that’s spun through six different names. President Jessica O’Neill didn’t mince words about the need for change, citing “soccer decisions” ⚽️as the reason behind Singer’s firing. Meanwhile, Ustruck, with his Orlando Pride experience, has been roped in to help steer this sinking ship through the murky waters of free agency.

The Dash recently topped 🔝 the league with 12 potential free agents—though Nielsen’s re-signing gives them a glimmer of hope. Meanwhile, U.S. international keeper Jane Campbell is sticking around, but star winger María Sánchez flew the coop, heading to San Diego in a trade that left everyone scratching their heads. As the Dash prepare to face the Utah Royals, they’ll be hoping for more stability and fewer “isolated incidents” as they try to climb back into playoff contention.

🌇 It’s A New Dawn

Washington Spirit GIF by National Women's Soccer League

Washington Spirit owner Michele Kang and Dawn Scott, a seasoned expert in female athletic health, are on a mission to redefine the game—literally. Their project, Kynisca, aims to create the “global blueprint for female athlete support,” moving away from outdated training models designed for men. Scott, who’s made a name for herself with the USWNT and England’s Lionesses, has helped build the Spirit’s Performance, Medical, and Innovation (PMI) department—a cutting-edge team focused on maximizing player performance through a comprehensive, female-specific approach.

The PMI team operates like a well-oiled machine, tailoring everything from mental performance to injury rehab to each player’s needs. They’re obsessed with data—tracking everything from sleep patterns to menstrual cycles—to keep players in peak condition. It’s not just about physical fitness; mental resilience is equally prioritized, with individualized training for different positions.

But it’s not all science and stats. The Spirit’s players have started to take ownership of their health and performance, fully buying into the PMI’s philosophy. And while the department’s success has been groundbreaking, they’re not resting on their laurels—constant self-improvement is the name of the game.

This female-focused, innovative approach isn’t just changing the game for the Spirit; it’s setting a new standard for how female athletes should be trained and cared for globally. The Spirit is proving that when you “train women as women,” the results are nothing short of world-class.

Tottenham Hotspur has added some Aussie firepower to their squad with the signing of Hayley Raso, who joins on a two-year deal after leaving Real Madrid. Raso, known for her pace and relentless energy, becomes Tottenham’s fifth signing of the summer. With 82 caps and 19 goals for Australia, she’s no stranger to the big stage, having recently played a key role in the Matildas’ journey to the World Cup semi-finals.

Raso is excited to return to the Women’s Super League (WSL), where she previously played for Everton and Manchester City, and expressed her admiration for Tottenham’s facilities and staff. She’ll don the number eight shirt as she looks to boost Spurs’ attack in their quest to improve on last season’s sixth-place finish. Meanwhile, as Raso arrives, it seems Spurs are set to say goodbye to Norwegian winger Celin Bizet, who’s on the verge of joining Manchester United for a modest £60,000 fee.

Tottenham fans will have to wait until September 22 to see Raso in action, as Spurs face league newcomers Crystal Palace in what could be a debut to remember.

  • Under intense scrutiny after a disappointing World Cup, Lindsey Horan led the USWNT to a gold medal in Paris, turning doubt into triumph. Despite not scoring, Horan’s leadership and precise passing were crucial, while the young squad, led by Sophia Smith, Mallory Swanson, Trinity Rodman, and Naomi Girma, delivered on both offense and defense. Praised by Emma Hayes for her tough but fair decisions, Horan silenced her critics and is now eyeing the 2027 World Cup in Brazil, confident in her team’s ability to succeed again

What is stoppage time?

Imagine waking up to the headline "USWNT Win World Cup in Stoppage Time!" and wondering what "stoppage time" means. In football, stoppage time is the extra minutes added by the referee at the end of each half to make up for delays like injuries, substitutions, or time-wasting. It ensures the game is fair by giving players the full playing time, often leading to thrilling, last-minute goals that can change the outcome of a match.
